Ingredients You Will Need

Labeled ingredients for making a burger bowl.
  • Sweet potatoes: This is like a substitution for your french fries and makes these bowls really hearty and filling!
  • Seasonings: Add flavor with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt and pepper.
  • Ground beef: Use lean for less grease, or swap for ground turkey.
  • Shredded cheese: Cheddar cheese is my go-to, but you can use a different variety if you like!
  • Toppings: All you need is a simple combo of cherry tomatoes and chopped pickles. Pickled onions make a great topping too.

Substitutions/Additions

  • You can use ground bison for another super hearty option, or for something lighter, go for ground turkey or ground chicken.
  • I serve my burger bowls over lettuce, but any kind of greens work well as the base. You can even make it into a rice bowl if you want!
  • Use a different kind of cheese like pepper jack or American cheese for a different flavor.
  • If you’re wondering what other toppings to add, try bacon bits, caramelized onions, sauteed mushrooms, or jalapenos.

Recipe FAQs

What can you put in a burger bowl?

For me, the perfect burger bowl has meat, potatoes, cherries, pickles, and tomatoes all over lettuce, but you can add any toppings you like!

How to store leftover burger bowls?

Keep the toppings stored separately in the fridge for 3 to 4 days. If you assemble and then refrigerate, you may have some unwanted alteration of textures and flavors, and the bowls will be harder to reheat.

What’s the best way to reheat burger bowls?

Pop the potatoes back in the oven at 350 or in your air fryer, and either microwave the beef or heat it up in a skillet. Then assemble as usual.

Can you eat burger bowls cold?

Absolutely! I prefer mine warm, but if you prep ahead of time and don’t want to have to reheat the bowls, they can definitely be enjoyed right out of the fridge as well.
