With a unique wasabi-infused breading, this Air Fryer Halibut is tender, flaky, and packed with flavor! If you’re looking for a delicious seafood dinner that’s prepped and cooked to perfection in just 20 minutes, you’ve come to the right recipe!

I’m a huge fan of making seafood the center of any meal. A nice white fish is perfect when I’m craving something light that’s still filling and satisfying, and halibut is one of my favorites!
This dish is inspired by Asian flavors and features an amazing golden brown crust with crushed wasabi peas! You end up with a super flaky and perfectly cooked piece of halibut with a little bit of spicy flavor and a great crunch in every bite!
Wasabi peas happen to be one of my favorite snacks, so if I end up with extra I’m a happy girl. But they’re also great in bowls, like these Air Fryer Blackened Salmon Rice Bowls or this Ahi Poke Bowl. You can also use your leftover peas to crust other proteins like chicken or salmon.
Why This Recipe Works

- Ready In 20: From start to finish, this recipe will only take you 20 minutes. That includes prep and cooking time!
- Makes The Most Of Pantry Staples: Aside from the fish and wasabi peas, you only need a handful of pantry staples to make this uniquely delicious recipe!
- Best Flavor Combo: White fish pairs beautifully with Asian flavors because of its mild, delicate taste and flaky texture, which balances perfectly with bold, umami-rich ingredients. My Miso Chilean Sea Bass is another great example!
Ingredients You Will Need

- Wasabi peas: Adds a bold punch of heat while creating an ultra-crispy, crunchy coating.
- Panko breadcrumbs: Ensures that you get a perfectly golden brown and crispy exterior.
- Mayonnaise: Adds a touch of creaminess to the coating for better adhesion and flavor.
- Soy sauce – Brings a savory depth to complement the natural sweetness of the halibut.
- Sesame oil – Adds a nutty aroma and subtle richness.
- Halibut filets: This mild white fish cooks perfectly in the air fryer and gives you a flaky and tender fish dinner.

Substitutions
- Any mild flavored fish like cod, tilapia, pollock, flounder, or haddock can be used instead of halibut.
- To save even more time on prep, you can use wasabi powder instead of crushing the wasabi peas.
How to Make Air Fryer Halibut

Step 1: Crush the wasabi peas. Place the wasabi peas in a food processor or blender and process until mostly powder.

Step 2: Prepare breading. In a bowl, mix the crushed wasabi peas with breadcrumbs. In another bowl, whisk the egg and mix with mayo, soy sauce, and sesame oil.

Step 3: Bread the halibut. First coat each fish filet in the egg mixture, then dip in the bread crumb mixture to evenly coat.

Step 4: Air fry the fish. Place the breaded filets in the air fryer basket and cook for 8 to 10 minutes.
Recipe FAQs
I love cooking halibut in the air fryer because it takes no time at all! All you need is 8-10 minutes.
Grab a meat thermometer and check for an internal temperature of 135° to 140° to ensure the fish is fully cooked.
If you have leftover wasabi peas, you can use them as a breading for other kinds of protein like chicken or salmon or as a topping for salads. They’re also great in savory snack mixes, and you can even eat them all on their own!
If you have fish leftover, allow it to cool and transfer to an airtight container in the fridge for 2 to 3 days. You can also freeze leftover fish for several months. I recommend a plastic freezer bag.
Pop the fish back in the air fryer with a little spritz of oil, or bake it in the oven until it’s heated through. You could microwave it, but the breading will probably be a little soggy or chewy rather than crispy and crunchy.
I love serving this recipe with my Easy Bok Choy or my Asian Cucumber Salad! If you’re looking for a starch, I’d suggest Ginger Rice.

- olive oil spray
Instructions

- Place the crusted halibut fillets in the basket, crust-side up, with about 2 inches of space between each one. Spray the tops of the fillets lightly with olive oil spray to ensure the crust gets golden brown.
- Air fry for 8-10 minutes, depending on the thickness of the fillets, until the crust is golden brown and the fish is opaque and flakes easily with a fork (it should have an internal temperature of 135-140°F).
Notes
- The best way to crush wasabi peas is to use a food processor or seal them in a bag and crush with a rolling pin. You can also use wasabi powder.
- If your air fryer doesn’t have a preheat setting, heat it for about 5 minutes before adding the fish.
- Use a meat thermometer and check for an internal temp of 135 to 140 to ensure the fish is fully cooked.
- If you have leftover wasabi peas, they make a great snack! You can also use them for snack mixes, rice bowls, or even to crust other proteins like chicken or salmon.
