Crab Fries are just what they sound like: crispy french fries loaded with the tender crab meat and melty cheese of my Maryland Crab Dip! Yum.
You can easily make this dish in 20 minutes using frozen waffle fries for a super convenient but restaurant-quality appetizer.
I’m from Maryland. So if I could put crab on everything, I probably would! Any opportunity to serve it (aka eat it), whether it’s a party, a game day appetizer, or even a fun and easy dinner, I’m sold.
These super easy crab fries are one of my favorites when it comes to featuring the tasty seafood, along with these super easy Maryland Crab Pretzels, or a batch of crispy and golden brown Air Fryer Crab Rangoons!
Why You’ll Love this Recipe
- Ready in no time: From start to finish, it won’t take you more than 30 minutes to get these crab fries on the table.
- Flavor party: Seasoned to perfection and incredibly cheesy, this savory dish is definitely satisfying when it comes to the flavor factor!
- Great for crowds: This fun finger food is great for serving guests, family, friends, or any group of people! I always get so many compliments on this recipe.
- Simple but impressive: This is one of the easiest appetizers you can make but also the most impressive!
Ingredients You Will Need
- Crab meat: I recommend jumbo lump crab meat for this recipe but I know it can be pricy so you can use lump crab if you like but I don’t recommend anything smaller than that.
- French fries: I use frozen waffle fries for convenience but feel free to swap them with your favorite fast food fries or even some homemade Crispy Air Fryer French Fries.
- Cream cheese: I prefer to use whipped cream cheese since it’s nice and airy which makes it easy to mix, but you can also use a softened cream cheese block.
- Old Bay seasoning: When it comes to seasonings, Old Bay and crab go together better than anything! This is all you’ll need to pull the flavors together.
- Shredded cheese: For best results, I recommend buying blocks of cheese and shredding them yourself, but pre-shredded cheese is a convenient option as well!

How to Make Crab Fries
Step 1: Cook fries. Bake the fries according to the package directions.
Step 2: Make crab mixture. Meanwhile, combine the cream cheese, mayo, Worcestershire, Old Bay, and lemon juice. Fold in shredded cheese and crab.
Step 3: Assemble. Once the fries are golden brown, add the crab mixture and sprinkle with the rest of the cheese.
Step 4: Bake. Pop your fries back in the oven for 15 to 20 minutes, or until the cheese is nice and melty. Garnish with chopped green onions and serve!
Recipe FAQs
The main components of Old Bay are paprika, celery salt, and red pepper, but there are other spices in there like black pepper, ground mustard, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
Technically you could use canned, but I prefer to go for fresh crab meat whenever possible for optimal flavor and texture!
Be sure to properly bake the fries before you add the crab topping or they’ll end up a bit mushy. Give them as much room as you can on the baking sheet to ensure that they bake properly.
Let them cool a bit to prevent condensation, then transfer to an airtight container. They’ll last for a day or two in the fridge. To prevent the fries from getting soggy, you might want to try storing the crab mixture separately if possible.
Yes you can! I recommend reheating them in the oven or air fryer if you can—the microwave will make them soggy. If you separate the crab mixture from the fries, reheat the fries for a bit first and then add the crab on top.
