Leftover Turkey FAQs
Leftover turkey can be stored in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 days. Be sure to store it in an airtight container or tightly wrap it in aluminum foil or plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out or picking up other odors in the fridge.
Leftover turkey freezes really well! Place it in an airtight container or freezer-safe bag, removing as much air as possible to prevent freezer burn. Frozen turkey can last for up to 3 months. Label the bag with the date so you know when to use it by. For best results, thaw it in the refrigerator overnight before reheating.
To keep leftover turkey moist, add a splash of broth, gravy, or water when reheating. Cover it with foil or a lid and heat it in the oven at 300–325°F until warmed through. For smaller portions, you can use the microwave, but be sure to use a microwave-safe cover and heat in short intervals, stirring in between.
Leftover turkey is perfect for tacos and enchiladas because it absorbs flavors well. Simply shred or chop the turkey and season it with taco seasoning or enchilada sauce. For tacos, add toppings like chunky salsa, homemade guacamole, and shredded cheese. For enchiladas, roll the turkey into tortillas, top with enchilada sauce and cheese, and bake until bubbly.
Leftover turkey pairs well with root vegetables like crock pot carrots or air fryer roasted sweet potatoes, but is also delicious with garlic green beans or some sautéed mushrooms with wine.
