Have you tried the Marry Me Chicken that’s been all over lately? The original recipe is a yummy main course that’s so good, they say making it for someone will have them marrying you on the spot.

So for those of you looking for a ring (or just something tasty), may I present a fantastic twist on the already-iconic dish! This recipe is a super creamy and savory dip perfect for watching the game, serving at parties, or enjoying with family.

Why This Recipe Works

A girl in a white sweater serving food.
  • Barely any prep: In only 5 minutes you can prep this dip! Then just pop it in the oven (do a million other things) and serve as soon as it’s done.
  • Elevated comfort food: This dip combines familiar flavors like creamy cheese with a nostalgic seasoning blend and pops of unique ingredients like dried tomato pesto.
  • Great for crowds: Because it’s so hearty and filling, one serving of this chicken dip goes a long way so it’s great when you have lots of hungry mouths to feed!

Ingredients You Will Need

Labeled ingredients for marry me chicken dip.
  • Cream cheese: Use regular cream cheese for a nice creamy dip or use whipped for a slightly lighter result. Whipped cream cheese is also easier to mix!
  • Pesto: I used a sun-dried tomato pesto to bring out that sweet and slightly tangy flavor.
  • Shredded chicken: Grab a rotisserie chicken from the grocery store or shred up some oven baked chicken.

Substitutions/Additions

  • Pesto: If you can’t find the tomato pesto, you can use regular basil pesto instead.
  • Greek yogurt: For a slightly lighter result, use instead of sour cream.
  • Cheese: A blend of Parmesan and mozzarella cheese is what I like in my chicken dip, but feel free to experiment with other varieties.

Recipe FAQs

What should I serve with Marry Me Chicken Dip?

I like to pair my dip with some buttery crackers or slices of toasted bread, but this dip pairs well with just about anything! Try it with potato chips, celery or carrot sticks, pita chips, pretzels, tortilla chips, or any other snacks you have on hand.

Why is it called Marry Me Chicken?

One story says that the name comes from the way in which the flavors “marry” together as the dish cooks, but the most popular explanation is that this chicken is so good it can cause someone to want to marry you after tasting it!

How should I store leftover chicken dip?

Allow the dip to cool, then transfer to an airtight container and keep in the fridge for 2 to 3 days. I don’t recommend freezing dip leftovers since they contain so much dairy. It can separate when frozen and lead to an altered texture or flavor.

Can you reheat chicken dip leftovers?

Pop your dip back in the oven at 350° until it’s nice and heated through again, or microwave smaller portions in 30-second intervals, stirring in between.

Notes

  • Allow the cold ingredients like sour cream and cream cheese to sit at room temperature for a bit to soften. This will make it easier to mix everything together.
  • If you want a super crispy and browned top, cook the dip under the broiler for a minute or two after it’s finished baking.
