If dips are your guilty pleasure and you’re skeptical about cottage cheese, let this Whipped Cottage Cheese Dip recipe be the one to convert you!

When I serve it for guests I tell them it’s a charred scallion dip and they have no idea there’s cottage cheese until I tell them at the end! Packed with flavor from charred scallions and a hint of citrus, it’s the perfect accompaniment for both chips and veggies.

Okay, I’m 100% in my cottage cheese era. Literally, I eat it almost every day for breakfast. But for those of you who aren’t fans, I totally get it!

Hear me out though. This high-protein, totally nutritious snack is not to be ignored! The key to enjoying cottage cheese is changing the texture. Whipping it removes those off-putting chunks, creating a whole new deliciously creamy version (kind of like ricotta) that’s perfect for this dip!

In addition to its creaminess, this creamy cottage cheese dip is one of my favorite appetizers because it’s so quick and easy! Coming together in just 10 minutes, it’s perfect to throw together when you’re having people over and short on time (aka me with my hair still in a towel, floors that need to be vacuumed, and guests due to arrive any minute).

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • Fresh & Light: There are many variations of homemade cottage cheese dip recipes out there, but this one is fresh, light, and creamy with a hint of citrus — it’s the perfect year-round appetizer or after-school snack.

cottage cheese, scallions, lemon, dill, and garlic powder in small ingredient bowls.

Ingredients You Will Need

Scallions: they get charred for a sweet yet smoky flavor. Scallions and green onions are the same thing, so you can grab either!

Fresh dill: adds a fresh and herbaceous flavor. It’s slightly sweet and tangy, with subtle notes of anise and citrus. You can use other fresh herbs like fresh basil, oregano, or fresh parsley.

Citrus: lemon & orange juice keeps this dip fresh, light. The juice from the orange isn’t overpowering,  but gives the dip a flavor that makes you say “ohh what’s that?!”.

Cottage cheese: the main ingredient is the perfect base as its mild flavors scream for other ingredients to join the party.

It’s also a healthier alternative to other popular dip bases like whipped feta, whipped cream cheese, or sour cream. You can swap the ricotta in this Lasagna Casserole for cottage cheese to get a little protein boost!

Spices: you will need garlic powderonion powder, and kosher salt to intensify the flavors.

FAQs

What is cottage cheese?

Cottage cheese is a velvety and mild-tasting fresh cheese, renowned for its soft and creamy texture. What’s the difference between whipped cottage cheese and regular cottage cheese?

The texture is the main difference. Whipped cottage cheese is smooth and creamy, while regular cottage cheese is lumpier with visible curds and liquid. Both have similar nutritional benefits, but whipped cottage cheese is easier to use in dips and spreads.

Can you buy whipped cottage cheese?

Whipped cottage cheese can be bought in store if you don’t feel like whipping it yourself!

What to dip in cottage cheese dip?

Tortilla chips, pretzel thins, potato chips, crostini or crackers are all great options for dipping. Fresh veggies like celery, carrots, or broccoli are also great options.

  1. In step 4 of the instructions I think you meant cottage cheese not ricotta? But I’m also thinking that ricotta would be a yummy alternative to cottage cheese in this recipe. I’ll be trying them both!

    1. whoops! you are correct just fixed that. Although, you can sub ricotta or feta if you like!
