Ingredients You Will Need

  • Chicken Wings: Buy the pre-sectioned wings for the easiest prep. If you can’t find them, whole wings will work!
  • Seasonings: Garlic powder and paprika are my go-to choices for wings. It adds big flavor but doesn’t overwhelm.
  • Butter: Only the real stuff, here, friends. No margarine allowed.
  • Honey: Honey adds sweet notes to the sauce and is the perfect way to offset the kick from the Buffalo sauce.
  • Buffalo Sauce: Make it yourself or grab a bottle of my favorite buffalo sauce.

Step 3: Place into a bowl. When the wings are finished cooking, place them in a large mixing bowl and get the sauce ready. If you preheat the sauce it’ll help the wings stay hot longer.

Step 4: Toss in saue. Coat the wings in the Buffalo sauce. Place the wings back in the air fryer basket and cook for 2-3 minutes until the sauce caramelizes.

Tips & Tricks

  • Make Homemade Buffalo Sauce: I served these with my homemade hot honey buffalo sauce. It’s optional, you can definitely substitute what you lather your wings in, but honestly, give it a try! This is a home-run sauce in my house!
  • It’s super easy to burn butter! To ensure you don’t burn your butter, watch the heat level and stir often.
  • Cook In Batches: Cook your wings in batches if you don’t have a large enough air fryer. For crispy wings, it’s crucial that they have a little bit of space between them, so be sure not to overlap or crowd the wings.
  • Season First, Sauce Last: Season the wings before cooking, but wait until afterwards to add the sauce. This will prevent the sauce from burning, and will also help to keep your air fryer cleaner!
  • Add a Kick: Sometimes I like to drizzle a little hot honey over the wings after they’re cooked. You can’t beat sweet, hot, and sticky!

Recipe Variations

  • Crumble Blue Cheese On Top: Love that Buffalo + Bleu combo? Freshly crumbled bleu cheese is perfect to crumble on top.
  • Make Teriyaki Wings: If you have people eating wings that can’t handle the heat of Buffalo sauce, toss some in teriyaki sauce instead!

Recipe FAQ’s

How should I serve air fryer buffalo wings?

Pair your honey buffalo wings with blue cheese crumbled over top, or with ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing on the side to dip. Add some carrots and celery sticks, or serve with fries or potato wedges on the side.

What’s the best way to store leftovers?

Let leftover buffalo wings cool, then store in an airtight container or plastic bag. They’ll last in the fridge for 3 days. To freeze them, I recommend first freezing them on a parchment lined baking sheet, and once they’re fully frozen, transfer them to a freezer bag (this will prevent sticking). They’re good for 3 to 4 months in the freezer.

How should I reheat buffalo wings?

Pop your wings back in the air fryer at around 350F. Air fry in 5 minute increments, turning in between, until they reach your desired temperature. Thaw frozen wings in the fridge before reheating.

Notes

Homemade Sauce: I used my own Hot Honey Buffalo Sauce for these wings, and while you can absolutely use your favorite store-bought version, I highly recommend giving this one a try. It’s a go-to in our house and always a hit!
Watch the Butter: Butter can burn fast, so keep the heat low and stir frequently while making the sauce. Don’t walk away—just a few extra seconds can take it from golden to scorched.
Cook in Batches: If your air fryer isn’t big enough to lay the wings out in a single layer, cook them in batches. Crowding them will steam the wings instead of crisping them up.
Season First, Sauce After: Always season the wings before cooking, and save the sauce for the end. This helps keep your air fryer cleaner and prevents the sauce from burning during the cook time.
Extra Heat Tip: For a little extra kick, I like to drizzle hot honey over the wings right before serving. Sweet, spicy, and sticky. It is so good!

  1. When making the honey sauce do you use bottled buffalo sauce or do we make the buffalo sauce first then add a cup to the honey sauce. Seems like a lot of butter which is fine but don’t want to make it incorrectly and mess it up.

    1. I use bottled buffalo sauce – you can use less butter if you prefer. You can always taste and add more if you like!

    1. I haven’t reheated them but I think they would be ok! I would put them back in the air fryer at about 300-325 for 6-8 minutes or until heated through.

o you use baking soda or powder to make the wings more crispy?

  3. Would the timing and temperature be the same for an air fryer oven, like the Ninja Foodie?

    1. Which one do you have? I am using the ninja foodi grill but I also have the flip up oven. I find that the flip up oven does not crisp as well as the foodi grill.

  4. How do these turn out if you make in advance and reheat? Any tips?

    1. I haven’t tried reheating them yet, but I would suggest reheating at 350 and check on temp after 5 minutes. Let me know if you reheat and how it turns out!

  6. Is there a change in time if the wings are frozen?

    1. I haven’t tried cooking them from frozen, but please let us know how it goes! I’ve seen others do it at about the same time but can’t say from experience.
