These are the Best Air Fryer Buffalo Wings

I LOVE buffalo wings. Nothing sounds better to me than hanging out on a Sunday and chowing down on some chicken wings while watching football.

These wings are doused in a hot honey buffalo sauce that will have your mouth watering for days.

As most of you know, air frying is one of my favorite cooking methods. It’s healthier, uses way less oil, cooks quickly, and the flavors and textures are ON POINT!

Sometimes it’s even better than the oven.

Ingredients for Honey Buffalo Wings

Pro-Tip: I served these with my homemade hot honey buffalo sauce. It’s optional, you can definitely substitute what you lather your wings in, but honestly, give it a try—this is a home-run sauce in my house!

Pairing Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings with the perfect sauce

Learning how to make Air Fryer Buffalo Wings is not an internet secret. However, pairing your buffalo wings with a killer wing sauce is where you are going to hit it out of the park!

This combination of butter, honey, and buffalo sauce provides a perfect “stick to the wing” texture with all the right flavors leaving you wanting more…and licking your fingers!

Bonus: If you have a little one that loves buffalo wings and is a tad on the adventurous side—this Hot Honey Buffalo Sauce has been kid tested and approved!

Sometimes I like to drizzle a little hot honey over the wings after they’re cooked. You can’t beat sweet, hot, and sticky!

How to make Buffalo Wings in Air Fryer

1. Preheat the air fryer to 350° F. Lightly spray both sides of the wings with cooking spray and season with salt, pepper, paprika, and garlic powder to taste.

2. Cook the wings. Place the wings in the air fryer basket in a single layer (leaving room between wings) and cook for 20 minutes, flipping halfway through.

3. Coat the wings in buffalo sauce. When the wings are finished cooking, place them in a large mixing bowl and toss with the Hot Honey Buffalo Sauce.

4. Finish cooking the wings. Place the wings back in the air fryer basket and cook for 2-3 minutes until sauce has caramelized. Transfer wings to a plate and serve with ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing.

How to make the sauce for Honey Buffalo Wings

While the wings are cooking, I like to make the buffalo wing sauce. It comes together in about 5 minutes! To make the sauce:

Melt the butter over medium-low heat in a small saucepan until bubbly, then add honey and stir until ingredients are completely mixed.

Once bubbly, add hot sauce and stir constantly over low heat until fully combined.

Pro-Tip: It is super easy to burn butter! To ensure you don’t burn your butter, watch your heat and stir often.

Buffalo Wings Air Fryer Tips

  • Cook your wings in batches if you don’t have a large enough air fryer. For crispy wings, it’s crucial that they have a little bit of space between them, so be sure not to overlap or crowd the wings.
  • Season the wings before cooking, but wait until afterwards to add the sauce. This will prevent the sauce from burning, and will also help to keep your air fryer cleaner!
  • When making the honey buffalo sauce, be sure to watch it closely and stir often. The butter can burn fairly easily.

Serving Air Fryer Buffalo Chicken Wings

Pair your honey buffalo wings with blue cheese crumbled over top, or with ranch dressing or blue cheese dressing on the side to dip. Add some carrots and celery sticks, or serve with fries or potato wedges on the side!

How to store leftover Air Fryer Buffalo Wings

Let leftover buffalo wings cool, then store in an airtight container or plastic bag. They’ll last in the fridge for 3 days. To freeze them, I recommend first freezing them on a parchment lined baking sheet, and once they’re fully frozen, transfer them to a freezer bag (this will prevent sticking). They’re good for 3 to 4 months in the freezer.

Buffalo Chicken Wings Air Fryer reheating instructions

Pop your wings back in the air fryer at around the same temperature you first cooked them. Air fry in 5 minute increments, turning in between, until they reach your desired temperature. Thaw frozen wings in the fridge before reheating.

  1. When making the honey sauce do you use bottled buffalo sauce or do we make the buffalo sauce first then add a cup to the honey sauce. Seems like a lot of butter which is fine but don’t want to make it incorrectly and mess it up.

    1. I use bottled buffalo sauce – you can use less butter if you prefer. You can always taste and add more if you like!

    1. I haven’t reheated them but I think they would be ok! I would put them back in the air fryer at about 300-325 for 6-8 minutes or until heated through.

o you use baking soda or powder to make the wings more crispy?

  3. Would the timing and temperature be the same for an air fryer oven, like the Ninja Foodie?

    1. Which one do you have? I am using the ninja foodi grill but I also have the flip up oven. I find that the flip up oven does not crisp as well as the foodi grill.

  4. How do these turn out if you make in advance and reheat? Any tips?

    1. I haven’t tried reheating them yet, but I would suggest reheating at 350 and check on temp after 5 minutes. Let me know if you reheat and how it turns out!

    1. Wow thank you so much, Lindsey!! I’m so excited to hear this!

  6. Is there a change in time if the wings are frozen?

    1. I haven’t tried cooking them from frozen, but please let us know how it goes! I’ve seen others do it at about the same time but can’t say from experience.
