You are going to love this Sauce for Salmon Patties!

One of my favorite weeknight meals is this recipe for oven baked salmon patties, which is a slightly different take on classic crab cakes. This lemon dill sauce is a must-try alongside that recipe!

This easy dill sauce recipe only requires 5 ingredients and is super easy to prep. You can mix up a bowl of this salmon patty sauce while the patties cook and have a fresh and delicious condiment ready just in time.

A bit similar to my crab cake sauce, this creamy dill sauce for salmon patties will become a go-to recipe to serve with all of your seafood favs!

Ingredients for this Salmon Patty Sauce

  • Plain Greek yogurt: Aside from a creamy texture and tangy flavor, Greek yogurt is also rich in protein, which adds a nice nutritious element to this sauce. Sour cream is a potential substitution.
  • Mayonnaise: Helps with that creaminess and doubles down on the rich, tangy flavor.
  • Lemon juice: I prefer using fresh lemon juice, but you can use store bought bottled lemon juice for an easier version. Add some lemon zest to the sauce as well for extra fresh flavor.
  • Fresh dill: I also like to use fresh herbs for a nice flavor and color. If you use dried dill, start with less and taste the sauce, then add as needed.
  • Black pepper: Simple cracked pepper helps tie together all of the flavors with a little bit of piney bite.

How to make Sauce for Salmon Cakes

  1. Making this delicious sauce is as simple as combining the yogurt, mayo lemon juice, chopped dill, and pepper in a small bowl.
  2. If you made this dill sauce for salmon patties, drizzle it over top with a squeeze of lemon juice. You could also serve it as a sandwich spread or a dip for veggies!

How to use this Dill Sauce for Salmon Patties

One of my favorite ways to enjoy this delicious sauce is with salmon cakes, which you can easily cook in the oven or air fryer. It also pairs really well with other salmon recipes like this elegant lemon pepper salmon, or a light and satisfying salmon salad sandwich.

While I think this takes salmon to the next level, lemony yogurt dill sauce will pair well with your favorite fish or seafood dish, whatever it may be! It even works as a companion for veggies like steamed green beans, a unique dipping sauce for french fries, or as a fix-in for baked potato night.

How to store Salmon Patties Sauce

Keep your salmon patty sauce in an airtight container in the fridge for 4 to 5 days. I don’t recommend freezing leftover sauce, as the dairy ingredients (especially the mayo) will separate and the texture will be different when thawed. Luckily, this creamy sauce is so yummy, it probably won’t be around for long anyway!

Lemon and dill is one of the most underrated flavor combos in my opinion. It is so good, I am going to have to make this a regular recipe in my kitchen!

Salmon is a delicious and healthy way to enjoy fish, and many different sauces can be served with them to add flavor and moisture.

I came from Maryland many years ago before leaving and going to Florida. I do miss the recipes from Maryland when I go out to eat since I can only get great recipes from Maryland seafood at home these days. I see you do not precook your veggies prior to making the salmon cakes. Most of the time, I precook veggies so that they are not extra crispy or hard due to the seafood has already cooked. Can you tell me if that was an oversite or explain the reasoning why. Thanks so much and the only thing I miss from Maryland is seafood out! ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Hi! I miss Maryland seafood too ๐Ÿ™ to answer your question, I don’t cook the veggies first. I finely dice them so that they do cook in the oven. They aren’t very crunchy but they do provide a little bit of texture, and I enjoy that. If you prefer to cook your veggies first, that’s ok too!

Just wondering why ours didnโ€™t come out that crispyโ€ฆ.my husband even tried the cast iron panโ€ฆ.but I thought maybe it needed a sheet pan to have more room between themโ€ฆ.any suggestions?

    1. your salmon could have had too much moisture in it. You can give the broiler a try next time!

Really, actually and no kidding, the best and maybe only good salmon cake recipe I’ve ever had. My (normal oven) baked ones made from canned salmon didn’t look half as good as those pictured, but they are delicious!
    Will definitely make this again.

    1. Wow I love to hear this! So happy you loved them ๐Ÿ™‚

  8. I am making these today. Can the salmon cake mixture be frozen prior to baking?

    1. I haven’t tried yet, but I don’t see why not. Just make sure you thaw them before baking. If you freeze them, let me know how it went!

Good. But did I miss the measurement for the greek yogurt? I could not find it but I winged it

    1. Hi! Yep – the measurements are all in the recipe card at the bottom of the page. Glad you enjoyed ๐Ÿ™‚

Fabulous! From an avowed (former) salmon hater. My doctor told me to eat more salmon for my high triglycerides. I splurged on fresh salmon – Chilean is what we can get around here. Made exactly as per recipe, including chilling the mix before forming patties and air frying, Fresh Dill is where itโ€™s at for both recipe and sauce. Family is very happy, and they are not fish lovers, trust me. Tell your mom A+.
