Once you make frozen mozzarella sticks in the air fryer, you’ll never make them another way again. The outside gets SUPER crispy and the inside gooey, cheesy and perfectly melted, just like deep fried mozzarella sticks from your favorite bar.

Air fryers aren’t just good for mozzarella sticks or game day foods! They are great for complete meals any day of the week. Some of my favorite air fryer dinners are these Blackened Salmon Rice Bowls, Miso Glazed Chilean Sea Bass, Air Fryer Meatballs, and Air Fryer Buffalo Wings!
Now, if you are looking for a crowd-pleasing appetizer or just a quick, delicious snack, mid-day snack for the kids or just looking to get a handle on a cheesy craving, this recipe is for you!
Mozzarella sticks are one of my favorite nostalgic snacks. I used to order them during football season in college for Monday night football.
Now I make them at home in the air fryer!
What you’ll need
Mozzarella sticks: For this recipe, I used 8 frozen mozzarella sticks. I really like Farm Rich frozen mozzarella sticks (found them in the freezer section of my local grocery store), but you can use whichever brand you prefer!
Air fryer: any air fryer will do. Just remember temperatures may vary slightly between brands, just like your oven. I recommend using the Ninja Air Fryer or the GoWise Air Fryer. If you’re considering purchasing a new one, I’ve reviewed the best air fryers for you.
For a little extra flavor, try sprinkling some garlic powder or parmesan cheese over your cheese sticks just before serving.
To keep your air fryer basket clean, try using these perforated parchment paper sheets.
How long do you air fry Farm Rich mozzarella sticks?
You pretty much only need to know how long to cook frozen mozzarella sticks in the air fryer for this recipe!
Simply preheat your air fryer for 5 minutes, or use the preheat setting if your air fryer has one. Place the frozen mozzarella sticks in the air fryer basket in a single layer and air fry for 5 minutes at 360 F.
Depending on the size of your air fryer, you may need to work in batches. I can fit about 5-7 mozz sticks in mine. If you have a smaller air fryer, you might fit about 4-5 at a time.
Flip the mozzarella sticks and air fry for an additional 1-2 minutes, until they turn golden brown. If you like them super gooey like I do, cook for 2-3 minutes after flipping.
I like to serve my air fryer mozzarella sticks with marinara sauce for dipping, but you can also serve with spicy mayo for a little kick.
Tip!
Farm Rich is the brand I used, but all frozen mozzarella sticks should cook for about the same amount of time.
You can reheat your mozzarella sticks in the air fryer the next day, but for best results, I recommend only making the exact amount you want to eat and leaving the rest in the freezer.
What to serve with mozzarella sticks?
You can never go wrong with dipping mozzarella cheese sticks in your favorite marinara dipping sauce. If you aren’t a fan of marinara sauce don’t worry – this tasty snack also pairs well with sauces like ranch, honey mustard, spicy mustard, and french onion dip.
Looking to shake things up and make your own dip? Consider making one of my favorites like Homemade Chick-Fil-A Sauce or BBQ Sauce!
I love serving mozzarella sticks as a snack or easy appetizer with a variety of dips and sauces! And honestly, you can’t go wrong with fried cheese. They make the best game day snack along with some air fryer hot pockets.
Can you put mozzarella sticks in the air fryer?
I think frozen mozzarella sticks taste the best in the air fryer. Since the air is circulating around the food, it gets the perfect 360° crisp.
Can you put aluminum foil in the air fryer?
Yes, you can put aluminum foil in your air fryer. However, aluminum foil should only go in the basket of the air fryer. When doing this, you also want to ensure you aren’t blocking or restricting any air flow or movement. I personally recommend using a bare basket or air fryer liners because they don’t interfere with the cooking process.
