Made popular by Bonefish Grill and their Bang Bang shrimp appetizer. Bang Bang Sauce (sometimes called boom boom sauce) is a creamy sauce and also a spicy sauce that features a sweet and spicy kick!

Homemade Bang Bang Sauce Recipe

This sauce is very easy to make from scratch because it uses pantry staple ingredients and only takes a couple of minutes to whip together.

For this recipe, you will need mayonnaise, Thai sweet chili saucesriracha, and paprika. The paprika is optional, but I really enjoy it.

How to make Sriracha Sauce

While your main dish is cooking, grab your ingredients and a small bowl and combine mayonnaise, sweet chili sauce, sriracha, and paprika (if using).

Whisk together until well incorporated. Depending on how much sauce you are making, you might need a larger bowl. This recipe will make about 1 cup.

Once the sauce is done, serve over shrimp tacos, dip your Crispy French Fries in it, or drizzle over a Veggie Burger!

Why is it called Bang Bang Sauce?

“Bang Bang” comes from a popular Chinese chicken dish, Bang Bang Chicken, made by street vendors in the Szechuan region of China.

It slowly took off in the United States through recipe adaptation and variation, however, it got its name because of the kick from the Thai sweet chili sauce that is used to make it.

Is Bang Bang Sauce the same as Yum Yum Sauce?

This sauce is not the same as Yum Yum Sauce.

Yum Yum Sauce is an easy sauce to make with simple ingredients like mayonnaise, ketchup, vinegar, garlic powder, sugar, paprika, and usually some water to get the right consistency.
